08-07-2013 Update: You may have noticed the large “Now Hiring” sign on Dunlawton Avenue in front of the newly constructed BJ’s Wholesale Club in Port Orange. The new store has not officially announced an opening date, but one of the developers suggests that BJ’s should be open by mid-November. The 90,000 square foot of shopping space will make the Port Orange location the largest BJ’s Club in the entire state of Florida. Many local residents are looking forward to the convenience this store will offer, including a 12-lane gas station. Also, BJ’s will bring over 100 new jobs to the Port Orange area. Memberships at BJ’s begin at $50 annually.

Additionally, construction of the LA Fitness that will anchor BJ’s in the Altamira Shopping Center is expected to begin in the next few weeks. The 45,00 square foot fitness center will be just south of BJ’s. Check back with us for further updates on Port Orange commercial development or call us today to learn more about why Port Orange is such a great place to call home.

UPDATE: Ground has finally broke on the 162,000 square-foot shopping center that will house BJ’s Wholesale Club, as well, an LA Fitness Gym and other businesses in the future. It will be located Dunlawton Avenue and Taylor Road, next to Golden Corral. This project will also see the extension of Yorktown Boulevard to connect Dunlawton Avenue and Taylor Branch Road to help lessen the traffic load in that area. BJ's currently has over 180 locations in 15 states. This membership club features electronics, office supplies, home goods, seasonal, sports, toys, health, jewelry, gas, groceries, and much more. Membership fees start at $50.00 per year. Different club options include Inner Circle, Business, and BJ's Rewards. One day passes are also available. Construction of BJ’s is expected to be completed by May 2013.

The first place that will probably have career information about BJs Wholesale may be the career page on bjs.com. i would recommend checking that page weekly or monthly when you have time. The career page is located here:

Good luck and please update us with your progress.

This is wonderful news for those of us who have been held captive here for years by Sam's Club. Sam's has never had any competition. They have shown that they could care less about their customers by charging gas prices that actually exceeded the competition!

I've been to the BJ's in Sanford and the variety is far better than at Sam's. In the deli department alone, there is the ability to purchase provisions and cheeses by the pound that are sliced by real people. It's wonderful! They have BBQ chickens, ribs and turkey breasts. There is more variety in the seafood department including better choices for smoked salmon and they have whitefish salad that Sam's refuses to carry.

I cannot wait for them to open. I will wait the 6 more months rather than renew with Sam's. BJ's is hoping to open before Thanksgiving. I am so done with Sam's. Do yourselves a favor and get a day pass to BJ's in Sanford to see the differences before you waste your money renewing with Sam's. No, Bj's is not Costco, but it is far, far better than Sam's.

BJ's will have gas. It will be located west of the store closer to the LA Fitness and south of Golden Corral.

I live in Palm Coast where there is nothing and I have to drive 1 1/2 hrs. to get to any bj's store in FL. There is so much open land to buy or lease in Palm Coast, your store would be a welcome site and as there are many seniors here, you would have no problem keeping busy. Please, Please consider opening one of your stores here. Plenty of busy traffic on major roads; up an upgrade to all here, plus, right smack dab in middle of St. Augustine (to the north) and Daytona (to the south) by 1/2 hour!!! It would be a very busy store.
