There are very convenient dog parks to choose from in Port Orange and surrounding areas in Volusia County. Some parks are located on the beach and a few are located in residential areas. Hours of these parks are usually dusk to dawnn, but may vary.

Listed below are a few dogs parks and designated areas for pets in the Daytona Beach area:

Port Orange: The All Children’s Park in Port Orange has a newer built dog park that is completely fenced. Many local Port Orange residents frequent this park due to the convenient location. Seating, trash bins, picnic tables, and the All Childrens Playground are very close.

Ponce Inlet: Dogs are welcome on the beach in Ponce Inlet in designated areas. Lighthouse Point Park is a big destination for dog lovers and friends. This location is large with plenty of room for your dog to run and enjoy the Atlantic Ocean.

West Volusia: Gemini Springs in DeLand allows dogs. Families can enjoy the park and bring their dog. Additionally, in Debary, you can bring your dog to the Barkley Square and enjoy the afternoon with your four legged friend.

Are you one of the many people who purchased a Kindle or Nook for Christmas? Millions of people own them today, so that means millions are just now learning how to use this new technology. The Volusia County Library is offering assistance to help new users learn how to use these devices correctly and easily!

Area library branches, including Port Orange, Edgewater, and New Smyrna Beach, are offering short classes that will teach you how to download books onto your Nook or Kindle device. They are free classes, but they do require reservations. Currently, a couple of classes are offered per month for free at the local libraries.

This is a great opportunity to get information about how to gain access to many free audio books and e-books through the Volusia County Library’s Overdrive system. If you don’t already own a Nook or Kindle, this free class may help you decide if this is an electronic device you want to add to your collection.

When it comes to family-friendly activities and attractions, this Central Florida area is hard to beat! You don't have to drive an hour to Disney or NASA, we have wonderful attractions in our own backyard.

Here are 3 family friendly attractions to check out, right here in Volusia County:

Marine Science Center - Visiting the Marine Science Center, located in New Smyrna Beach, you will get a chance to see some sea turtles and seabirds in rehabilitation. But it doesn’t stop there. You will also find tanks with turtles, stingrays, and more, as well as crafts and other activities.

Marine Discovery Center - Also located in New Smyrna Beach, you can take an eco boat ride here and learn about the river habitat. It is an enjoyable ride that will give you the inside scoop on the flora and fauna, as well as probably give you a chance to see wildlife, including dolphins.

Cracker Creek - This is one of the gems of Port Orange. Whether you want to stroll the rustic grounds or rent a canoe for a couple of hours, it’s a wonderful place to visit. And be sure to check out the many peacocks roaming freely on the property.

This is just a small sampling of all the great things there are to do throughout the Daytona Beach and Volusia County area. These places are great for family members of all ages. If your family hasn’t visited these attractions, schedule on your to-do list, and be sure to take along a camera!
