17th Annual Port Orange Family Days
The 17th annual Port Orange Family Days is just around the corner, as Port Orange continues to show why this city is a great place to call home. Running for four days from October 4th through the 7th, Port Orange Family Days is chalked full of events for locals and residents of all ages that celebrate “community spirit and civic pride.” From the community expo and carnival to the all new “Star Search”, this year’s Port Orange Family Days will be fun for the whole family. The best part about this amazing community event is that the expo, parade, and live entertainment are all free making this event a cornerstone of the strength and generosity of the Port Orange Community. Below I will outline some of the Port Orange Family Day events so you can properly plan this long weekend of entertainment.
Carnival
The carnival is an ever-popular part of Port Orange Family Days that is open for fun all four days of the event. Kicking off this year’s carnival in affordable style, the opening night from 5-11pm will find rides only $1 per person, per ride. This is a great opportunity to bring the family out for a fun and inexpensive evening and makes the answer easy when the kids yell, “Can we go again?!” But if you can’t make it Thursday night, the carnival will run a $20 wristband special each subsequent day of Port Orange Family Days; Friday all night from 5-11pm, and Saturday and Sunday in two periods (Saturday - 11am-5pm or 5-11pm / Sunday - 11am-3pm or 3-7pm). Aside from these great ride specials, there will also be carnival games of chance and skill that offer various prizes. And of course don’t forget to pick up some delicious carnival foods available like funnel cake, deep-fried Oreos, candied-apples, and much more. Just the carnival itself offers great entertainment and value for the whole family, but this is only a part of the great community event that is Port Orange Family Days.
Community Expo
The Community Expo at Port Orange Family Days has continually brought the best local businesses, organizations, and even politics to the Port Orange City Center. Come browse the large array of booths as area organizations and businesses show you how important you are to this community with many great give-aways and raffles. There will also be face-painting and other great interactive areas for children that will be sure to keep them entertained and for the best price of all: free. The expo runs both Saturday and Sunday (October 6th and 7th) from 9am-4pm and with booths totally sold out for this event, there will be enough here to keep you and the family busy for the day or even weekend.
Parade
Who doesn’t love a parade? Port Orange Family Day’s annual parade, which will kick off on Saturday at 10am, is one of the best around featuring many bands and dance groups from our local schools such as Spruce Creek High School, Atlantic High School and Creekside Middle School. Other community organizations such as veteran groups and volunteer groups will adorn this festive fall parade. The parade will start at City Center Parkway near Dunlawton and end at the Lakeside Center so be sure to bring a blanket or chair and pick a good spot to enjoy this grand display of Port Orange unity.
Star Search
It’s not quite American Idol, but this local talent show may surprise you as 12 local contestants vie for $2500 in prize money and some community bragging rights. New this year, Star Search will be held in Saturday, October 6th from 7-9pm at the Port Orange Amphitheater. Come out for the free entertainment and take part in the selecting the winners. You, the audience, will decide who wins the inaugural Port Orange Family Days Star Search and take home the grand prize of $1000!
