Afternoon of Florida History March 14th - MOAS

moas florida history lectureWhat: Come out to the Museum of Arts & Sciences for some interesting and exciting lectures on our local history. First enjoy the Story of Little Lake Helen, the historic village founded by Henry DeLand in 1888. Once a thriving winter resort town and industrial center of West Volusia, Lake Helen is now a charming town reflecting Florida's history. Join Senior Curator of Education and Curator of History, James “Zach” Zacharias, once a resident of the city, and discover this unique 2.5 square mile historic district. Later learn the Story of Port Orange and the Dunlawton Plantation where local historian and educator, Joe Vetter, will discuss this small Florida town which was founded after the Civil War by a Union Army surgeon and hundreds of newly-freed slaves. Admission for this event is free for MOAS members and just $5 for non-members. Don’t miss out!
