Where: Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, 4931 South Peninsula DriveWhat: On this day in 1789, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation allowing the federal government control over the creation and maintenance of lighthouses. This special day evolved out of this event in an effort to preserve lighthouses as important historical American symbols. National Lighthouse Day honors and commemorates a beacon of light that symbolizes safety and security for boats at sea. Come celebrate this day with family-oriented activities, a climb of the tallest Lighthouse in Florida, and explore many historical exhibits. Visit the "Old Lighthouse Keeper" as he describes his duties at the historic Lighthouse. Activities include: Keeper in the Office, Guess the Artifacts Table, Children's Craft Activities and Knucklebones Game Area, and are all included with the price of regular admission.
