ponce inlet lighthouse floridaWhat: Enjoy a day of re-enactors talking about Florida's rich past and discover intriguing information about the people that preceded us here in the Sunshine State. One of the featured activities for this event will be “Ponce on a Stamp: from Idea to the Envelope.” Have you ever wondered how a person, place or thing end up featured on a U.S. stamp? Learn about the process of the creation of a stamp, and take the opportunity to place your face on a giant replica stamp commemorating the 1984 stamp of Juan Ponce de Leon. In celebration of Spanish heritage in Florida, we look back to the year 1927 when Mosquito Inlet was renamed to honor the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon. The lighthouse that also bears his name was completed in 1887. As part of the celebration, the museum offers exhibits in English and Spanish, Spanish guide materials and Spanish language information and activities that have been designed to highlight the rich Spanish heritage in the State of Florida. This event is fun for the whole family and the extra activities are included with regular admission. For more information visit Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.
