Florida is 9th Best State For Early Retirement - Daytona Beach Better

daytona beach coastline condos

According to a recent national news report, Florida was named one of the top 10 best states for early retirement. This may come as little surprise to most, since Florida is often associated as a retirement destination that draws flocks of snowbirds each year. But the more interesting aspect of the report is that Florida was ranked just 9th best on this list. While the obvious reasons for retiring in Florida, such as warm weather and lack of a state income tax were mentioned, the factor that held Florida down on this list seemed to be a high cost of living. While the article specifically mentioned the expensive cost of living in Miami and West Palm Beach, it certainly left out some of the less metropolitan areas such as Daytona Beach. Here retirees enjoy lower property costs, more privacy, less traffic, greater convenience to other areas of Florida, and the same or better beach beauty as those south Florida beaches. While it’s unfortunate for Florida to get a lower ranking on this list of best states to retire, we are encouraged by the fact that our beautiful city breaks the mold of those other overpriced areas of Florida. Plus, for those already living here or planning to retire in the Daytona Beach area, this may be a better kept secret than we ever thought.
