Google Doodle Competition Port Orange Student
Showcasing the quality of both our local school system and the excellent families that reside in Port Orange, Meryl Liu, a Cypress Creek Elementary student, was named the “Doodle 4 Google” state winner for Florida. This national art competition is open to all K-12 students in the United States and asks them to create their own Google doodle. This year’s theme was “My Best Day Ever.” Here is her drawing depicting a child surrounded by endangered birds, with the following caption:
Meryl is a student in Amy Spies’ 4th grade class and Ektemal Francis-Hanna’s art class, and her art was one of more than 130,000 entries nationwide. The national winner will be selected by the public voting online for their favorite doodle. Voting is open May 1st – 10th. The national winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school.
Congratulations to Meryl! Let’s support this very talented local student and help her hear her name called at the national award ceremony in NYC on May 22nd.
