Beginning as early as this month, the Florida Department of Transportation will begin an extensive widening and systems interchange design-build project on Interstate 95 from north of SR 44 to north of US 92. This project is expected to alleviate many traffic issues around the Port ORange I-95 exit specifically and will prove to be even more beneficial as our area continues to expand in commercial development and garner even greater popularity. i-95 expansion project

According to FDOT, this project involves widening Interstate 95 (I-95) from four-lanes to six lanes from north of State Road (SR) 44 to north of US 92 (International Speedway Boulevard). The southern project limit will tie in to the ongoing I-95 widening project to the south (from south of SR 406 to north of SR 44). This Design Build project also reconstructs the I-95 Interchange leading to and from Interstate 4 (I-4) and US 92 which will increase mobility and connectivity. It will also increase the safety for merging, exiting and through-traffic. The project will also eliminate a left side merge ramp onto I-95 from US 92, just a short distance to the south. The estimated date of completion for this extensive project is Summer 2018. i-95 widening new smyrna
