I-95 Widening Project In Port Orange
Beginning as early as this month, the Florida Department of Transportation will begin an extensive widening and systems interchange design-build project on Interstate 95 from north of SR 44 to north of US 92. This project is expected to alleviate many traffic issues around the Port ORange I-95 exit specifically and will prove to be even more beneficial as our area continues to expand in commercial development and garner even greater popularity.Â
According to FDOT, this project involves widening Interstate 95 (I-95) from four-lanes to six lanes from north of State Road (SR) 44 to north of US 92 (International Speedway Boulevard). The southern project limit will tie in to the ongoing I-95 widening project to the south (from south of SR 406 to north of SR 44). This Design Build project also reconstructs the I-95 Interchange leading to and from Interstate 4 (I-4) and US 92 which will increase mobility and connectivity. It will also increase the safety for merging, exiting and through-traffic. The project will also eliminate a left side merge ramp onto I-95 from US 92, just a short distance to the south. The estimated date of completion for this extensive project is Summer 2018.Â
