Memorial Day Weekend 2013
Memorial Day weekend is here and many of us have big plans for this long weekend which signifies the unofficial beginning of summer vacation season. Boating, Barbeques, and backyard football games will all be staples of a weekend full of fun with family and friends. But it is also important to remember the significance of this holiday and the sacrifice many Americans have made over our great history.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday set aside for remembering and honoring the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Services. Originating after the American Civil War, it was formerly called Decoration Day, and was celebrated as a day of remembrance of the many Union and Confederate soldiers who perished. But it was also a symbol of unification for our country which had been so divided. Today Memorial Day honors all who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and is observed with many local events, concerts and parades. So get out and enjoy the sun and sand of the “World’s Most Famous Beach” this weekend. Some Memorial Day events in the Daytona Beach area include:
- Memorial Day Tribute at Daytona Beach Bandshell
- Memorial Day Rememberance Service at Rockefeller Gardens
We at 386RealEstate hope you all have a wonderful, safe Memorial Day weekend filled with family, friends, and fun, but also remember to take a moment of reverence for the men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom.
