What: Come out to the Lighthouse this Memorial, Day weekend for family fun activities. Explore the historical exhibits and climb the tallest lighthouse in Florida. Journey back 100 years ago, when the keepers and their families lived at the lighthouse. In 1927, Mosquito Inlet was renamed to honor the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon. The lighthouse, which also bears his name, was completed in 1887. As part of a celebration of Spanish Heritage, the museum offers exhibits in English and Spanish. Visitors to the Lighthouse during the Family Fun Days will have the opportunity to participate in family-oriented activities that have been designed to highlight the rich Spanish heritage in the State of Florida. One of our featured activities for this event will be Ponce on a Stamp: from Idea to the Envelope. Have you ever wondered how a person, place or thing end up featured on a U.S. stamp? Learn about the process of creating a stamp and about the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee. Then create your own commemorative stamp design to mark the 500th year of Ponce de Leon's discovery of the State that we call home.
