No Drive Beach At The Hard Rock?

In recent weeks the issue of beach driving has been a hot topic as new, high class hotels begin their development phase along Daytona Beach. Plans to renovate the former Desert Inn, which has been recently purchase by Summit Hospitality Group, are highlighted by the request for a no-drive section of beach adjacent to the the hotel. Now, just this week, the proposed Hard Rock Hotel and Residences have also placed a similar request in to the Volusia County Council. While beach driving has been a staple of the Daytona Beach lifestyle for decades, even playing a role in the nickname “World’s Most Famous Beach”, some feel that these no-drive sections need to be approved in order to continue bringing new and exciting properties to the Daytona Beach coastline. As part of the Hard Rock’s proposal, they are already offering 65 public parking spaces within their hotel garage, though a major issue if the driving ban is passed, will continue to be a shortage of public parking areas. The Volusia County Council is set to decide on the Desert Inn’s proposal as soon as this Thursday night.
