The Planet Fitness chain has found popularity due to its affordable membership options as well as through their strive to be a “Judgement-free zone”. This means working out at your own pace, on your own time, and without the pressure of some more muscle-bound gyms. In fact, if anyone is loudly grunting or dropping large weights, they will really draw attention to themselves when the “Lunk” alarm goes off as a reminder to respect the others working out around them. Planet Fitness offers a large assortment of the newest cardio equipment, free-weights and other fitness training equipment. Planet Fitness also offers tanning and has spacious locker rooms with private showers and lockers to secure your valuables. There are several membership options to choose from, but possibly the most beneficial one is their Black Card Membership which consists of unlimited fitness training at any Planet Fitness location across the country and also allows you to bring a guest with you. Also included is unlimited tanning and massage chair use and a 50% discount on cooler beverages. The Black Card will cost around $20 a month and requires a 12-month contract and an additional annual fee charge of $39.

Powerhouse Gym
1300 Beville Road, Daytona Beach (386)310-4949
Powerhouse Gym Daytona
A fairly new gym in the Publix shopping center, Powerhouse offers a wide array of amenities for their members. Plenty of treadmills, elliptical equipment and the largest amount of benches in the area are only the beginning as Powerhouse offers tons of group fitness classes such as Zumba, hip-hop dance, ballroom dance, salsa, kickboxing and much more. There is also tanning and hydro-massage included in the membership price. I was told they don’t quote prices over the phone, but that there are some special rates right now in the $20 range per month. For those that live a little further north, the Powerhouse Gym in Palm Coast will be adding a rock-climbing wall to their member benefits soon.
