This week, the City of Port Orange approved a conceptual plan for the long-awaited Riverwalk Project. This new master plan calls for a waterfront venue for concerts and community events, including a boardwalk area and splashpad. The project will accompany the private development of a high-rise condo building, new boat slips, and a riverboat restaurant. It seems as if the developers have taken the suggestions of a recent city wide workshop, including large parking area with more than 200 spaces, a volleyball court, and a kayak/canoe launch. The cost of this project could be an issue, however the City staff is working diligently to keep the budget reasonable and apply for grants from the state. Construction of this project is expected to begin early next year, with the private, riverboat restaurant opening as early as Fall of this year. Stay tuned for more exciting developments coming to our hometown of Port Orange.
